about this program

Work with a student group of 3-4 students using the Literacy Now curriculum (full training).

Mentoring provides meaningful connections between children and adults, allowing adults to speak love, acceptance, and encouragement into a child’s life.  A mentor’s presence impacts and influences a child’s life at school, at home and in their communities.  Student mentoring is linked to improved academic, social and economic futures.

As a school mentor, you can expect to spend around 30 minutes with your student or student group.  The goal of mentoring is to be a role model and bring a consistent, listening presence for an elementary or middle school aged child who may be struggling academically, behaviorally or at home.  We provide training that includes suggested activities, talking points, and games that build connection.

Mentors are invited to join mid-semester, but we have our larger orientations and training in September and January.
